Historic District Approvals

Columbus Register of Historic Properties

The Columbus Register of Historic Properties is the city's official listing of individual properties, groups and districts of historic and architectural significance. Columbus has 18 historic districts and 59 individual buildings listed on the Register.

The Historic Preservation Office provides technical assistance to property owners and potential buyers who would like to purchase historic properties. Staff also works with the Housing Division rehabilitation technicians, Code Enforcement staff, Building Services Division zoning staff, the Franklin County Municipal Environmental Court and the Department of Recreation and Parks.

The Historic Preservation Office also staffs the city's five historic Architectural Review Commissions, including the Historic Resources Commission (HRC), which is responsible for the Old Beechwold Historic District.

Renovations

“I am considering making exterior renovations to my property.”

Before external renovations are made to a property in Old Beechwold, prior approval of a Certificate of Appropriateness is required from the HRC.

The property owner first completes a Historic Commission Review Application. Click this link to download the Application Form for the Historic Resources Commission.

Property owners are encouraged to contact any of the following Historic Preservation Office staff early in the process to discuss their plan for external property renovations:
